About Belukar and Gili Trawangan

Belukar is suited to holiday makers who wish to escape the bustle of a busy life and enjoy the true peace and tranquility that Belukar's location has to offer. We are located on the northwest corner of Gili Trawangan, only a few minutes walk from the quieter beaches famed for their sunsets. Nearby bars and restaurants cater for all needs, particularly for those who don't always want to venture further afield. To cycle to the main harbour takes approx 15 minutes.

You will be well looked after by the owners, who are island residents with full-time expertise in the island's holiday industries, supported by a team of carefully selected local staff. We have considered and covered your every need and look forward to your arrival.

Gili Trawangan is away from the relative hustle and bustle of Bali and Lombok. In recent years numerous travel books, guides and newspaper supplements have sung Gili Trawangan's praises...a paradise only a short distance from the more strident and crowded Bali. The writers all acknowledge the charming appeal of an archetypal tropical coral island with bath-warm seas, teeming with turtles and a fabulous array of colourful tropical fish.

Gili Trawangan is small: 3 square miles (7 square kilometres); 1.25miles (2kms) from north to South; and, 1 mile (1.5kms) from east to west. You can walk around it on the coastal path in under 2 hours, stopping, of course, for a glass of local Bintang beer or other cold refreshment en-route.

The south and east of the island are the main centres of most activity, dive shops, bars and restaurants and are the busiest and noisiest. The north and west are the most tranquil and unspoilt. Visitors therefore have a choice but nowhere is too far or inaccessible by foot, bicycle or cidomo, the island's horse-drawn carts.

On Gili Trawangan the new now sits easily alongside the traditional. Unchanged Indonesian village life, local markets, and cattle grazing in shaded palm groves coexist with international restaurants, cafes and bars with vibrant nightlife, ATMs, craft shops and the watersports and other activities which give Gili Trawangan its extra dimension and attraction. Gili Trawangan may be known as a party island but retains the opportunity for nature and tranquillity too.

Successful tourism has, of course, brought opportunities, prosperity and other advantages to the small island but has also set environmental, ecological and other challenges. At Belukar, we believe that our business gives us responsibilities, not only to our customers but also to the island itself. Belukar plays a financial and practical part in all Gili Trawangan's diverse initiatives: anti-environmental pollution, particularly in the war against plastic litter; waste collection and disposal; reef restoration and the logistic burden imposed on horse drawn transport - many of these initiatives are led by the Gili Eco Trust - www.giliecotrust.com. So, your stay at Belukar, as well as providing a wonderful holiday break in our luxury hotel rooms, allows us to help protect a very small but we think important part of the planet
